2OO8 CAMBRIA OKTOBERFEST

 The 2008 Cambria Oktoberfest will take place Saturday October 4 from 12:00 Noon (doors open at 11:45 a.m.) ‘till 8:30 p.m. at the Veterans’ Hall, 1000 Main Street in downtown Cambria.

Sponsored by American Legion Post 432, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Santa Rosa Catholic Church, the proceeds provide funds for the Legion’s charities, the Cambria Bus, and local food distribution.

The event offers German food, beer, music and dancing. From Noon to 4:00 p.m. the music will be provided by the Mudskippers band from Arroyo Grande and from 4:30 until closing by The Great Danes from Fresno. Cover charge for each session will be $7.00 and for the entire day $10.00. A Foxy Dachsie beauty contest for dachshunds will take place during the intermission between the sessions.

Area performing groups on the program include the Cambria Line Dancers, dancers from the Cambria Couples Club, Cambria German Folk Dancers, Ballet Folklorico Cachanilla (Mexican Youth folk dancers from Paso Robles), The Solvang Village Folk Dancers and Benat Serat (Morro Bay Belly Dancers) .

Audience participation activities include a Men’s Ugly Legs contest, Ladies’ Lovely Legs contest, Chicken Dance contest.

Honorary Mayor Emeritus Kim Maston will help open the event at Noon and the Cambria Town Criers will participate in the ceremonial opening at 2:00 p.m. at which children from Cambria’s Montessori School will perform a German folk dance.

Only 250 tickets will be sold for this year’s drawing. The Grand Prize is a 7-day trip to Germany, round-trip from LAX) valued at $4,000. Second prize is an in California mini-vacation in Santa Barbara, the Napa Valley or Tahoe valued at $1,000. Winners may opt for cash, if they prefer. Tickets are $50 and are tax deductible if purchased from one of the sponsors.

 

OKLAHOMA MC AT CAMBRIA OKTOBERFEST

   Buddy Butcher, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, will be one of the Masters of Ceremony at this year’s Cambria Oktoberfest. Butcher MC’s in Das Ess Zelt at the Oktoberfest in Tulsa, one of the largest Oktoberfests in the U.S. Das Ess Zelt is the venue at which several folk dance groups perform during the four-day event.
   Butcher is a long-time friend of Don Dallmann, the Entertainment Chair of Cambria’s Oktoberfest. He and his wife, Joy, who led the German American Society of Tulsa’s folk dance group for many years, will perform a few German folk dances with Dallmann and his wife, Barbara, at the Cambria event.
